Bridges Out of Poverty

This special session will be offered as an Advance Class at School for Lay Ministry-Cornell site on Saturday, October 12 from 8:30 to 5:00 pm. This program is open to all people—men, women, United Methodists, grads of SLM, and anyone interested in serving people in poverty.
This program provides training based on the work of Dr. Rub Payne. It provides insight for middle and upper class individuals about the “hidden rules” of each socioeconomic class and how these unspoken rules can serve as barriers to effective communication. This is a program that supports helping individuals build strong, healthy connections with people in poverty to grow out of poverty.
The cost is $75.00. Lunch and materials provided. Registration is due by September 30. Checks should be made to Iowa Annual Conference. Please send name, email address, and payment to Lynn Calvert, Dean SLM Cornell 719 10th Ave. Coralville, IA 52241 or email
