Be the hands and feet (and tongues) of Christ
Our English class for Spanish speakers is three years old this fall, and we have a wonderful time teaching and learning from the students who come. Our fall classes will be on Monday nights, starting on September 10 from 6:30—8:00 pm. We have a few changes this year and need some additional help.
We especially need: Two to four mentors. This is an easy job if you like to interact with people. All you have to do is sit with the student and help them when they do their class exercises. Knowing Spanish is a plus, but the class is entirely in English, so don’t worry if English is your only language.
We also need: Two to four tutors for children. We have a growing program for the children that focuses on reading and homework help. Our child care director will plan the activities and materials, and the kids speak English, so no Spanish is needed.
One to two drivers: We have more requests for transportation all the time, so we need drivers who can take the church van into North Liberty to pick people up around 6:00 pm and then take them home at 8:00 pm.
One or two snack people: We will be offering healthy snacks (like fruit, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, etc.) before the class. You can drop them off anytime before 6:15, and we can reimburse you the cost.
One or two setup people: All our materials are stored in the Ministry Outreach Center (the big build-ing at the back of the lot), so this involves bringing in tubs, white boards and possibly tables and setting the up before 6:30 and then taking them back to the MOC at 8:00 pm.
We will start on Monday nights with a conversation and snack time at 6:15 pm. Class will be from 6:30 to 8:00 pm. If you can help or know someone who might be interested, please contact Judy McRoberts at 319-430-9881 or firstname.lastname@example.org or Anna Wu at 319-621-1849.
