NEWS FROM PASTOR ALECIA’S STUDY

THREE SIMPLE RULES
Along with the All Church Bible Study emphasis, throughout the month of November we will be focused on The Three Simple Rules in worship. While modest in their presentation, following the Wesleyan focus allows an individual, as well as the church, to deepen in their love of God and in their following of Jesus.

November 1 The World In Which We Live Colossians 3:12-14
November 8 Do No Harm Galatians 5:13-15
November 15 Do Good Acts 10: 34-38
November 22 Stay in Love With God Psalms 105:1-5

Join us in worship each Sunday, as well as in a small group experience, to look at a new
way of living.

SECURITY TEAM
We are in the process of forming a Security Team in the life of the church. We live in a broken and hurting world. Our church is a reflection of that world. People bring their issues with them to the church. When the front doors are open and the welcome mat is rolled out, churches have to be prepared for who, and what, walks in. (The Church Safety and Security Guidebook) Being unprepared is no longer an option. There are procedures in place; however, now is the time to strengthen them. Ponder this: What would the response be if….

…. we had a fire or tornado?
…. someone had a heart attack?
…. a child went missing during an activity?
…. two separated parents argue in a child’s classroom about custody?
…. someone brought a weapon or caused a disturbance during worship?

While we have some procedures in place, not nearly enough. We want to make sure that we are as prepared as possible for situations that might arise. Certainly places of work and schools are ahead of us in preparation. Over the coming weeks, we will be assessing our needs within our church buildings, as well as within our ministries. Out of the assessment, we will move toward developing plans and preparing teams. We are putting together a team of 6-10 to formulate plans for various aspects of preparedness.

In particular, we are looking for folks with backgrounds in:

*law enforcement
*emergency response personnel
*medical personnel

The Security team will develop the plans and implement the training necessary for additional volunteers. If you feel called to this ministry team, then contact Pastor Alecia at 626-2762 or pastor@southslope.net. Initial meeting will be on Sunday, November 8 at 6:00 pm. It will last one hour. Come check it out to see if this is a fit for you. Check the bulletin for the location.

MARKERS
In October we marked the passing of Dale Boerhave. While only worshiping with us for a few years, Dale had a keen love of learning about the word of God. Dale attended the 9:45 am service.

Peace,
Alecia
