Bibles

We will have a table set up in September with a display of Bibles you can order, in preparation for “Making Sense of the Bible” in October. If you are interested in ordering a new bible, please check out the display, then let the church office know your choice and we will order. Checks will be payable to “First UMC”.

Lamplighters

Lamplighters is an adult fellowship group that is open to all on a “come when you can” basis. This group meets on a monthly basis in either a home or restaurant.
Lamplighters will be meeting on Saturday, July 19 at 5:30 pm at the Midtown 2, 1069 Hwy 1 West, Iowa City (near Walmart). Richard & Cathy Grugin will be hosting this event. Come join them for food (at your expense) and a great opportunity for visiting.

Men’s Group

The July activity for the Men’s Group will be a work night on Wednesday, July 9 at 7:00 pm to mount a TV and DVD player in the MOC classroom. The TV, DVD player and wall mount are being provided by the Men’s Group to enhance the usefulness of this room. All men are invited to attend as this will be a fellowship time while working and then the Group plans to go out for treats after accomplishing the task. The Men’s Group will hold another special activity in August before resuming regular weekly meetings in the fall.

Teachers Wanted

We are actively seeking new members of the Children’s Ministry Team!  Please prayerfully think about joining us to co-teach Sunday School in the fall.
Each classroom has a team of teachers –no one is expected to teach every week the whole year.
Please contact Mandy at NLFUMCyouthandchildren@gmail.com
if you are interested in joining us in September.

You Can Help Stop Human Trafficking!

If you can do your two bits’ worth, we as a church can help stop human trafficking by supporting Rapha House International’s efforts to rescue children from being sold into slavery. It is our hope to collect $25.00 each month to send to this organization of committed Christians whose mission is to love, rescue and heal children who have been rescued from trafficking and sexual exploitation. Rapha House seeks to mobilize Christ’s church to respond powerfully to this evil, the fastest growing criminal business in the world following the drug trade. Their mandate is found in Proverbs 31:8,9: “Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed. Yes, speak up for the poor and helpless, and see that they get justice.” Please help by putting a quarter in the cylinder that will soon appear in the narthex. Contact Paul Rudolph if you have questions or check the
raphahouse.org website.

Empty Nesters Gathering — New Adult Ministry Group Forming

Being a “Free Bird” is a wonderful and exciting time of life for those “around” the ages of 40 to ?? years old, whether you are single or married, with or without children. We will hold our first event on Friday, June 27 at 7:00 pm at Cedar Ridge Winery in Swisher. Along with great food and fellowship, we will map out ideas for future monthly meetings. Whether it’s canoeing on the Upper Iowa, attending a Kernels’ game, working one day at Habitat or heading to a concert, all ideas are welcome. Maybe you have always wanted to be part of a study group or take part on a service trip. This is the group for you! This new ministry group will be open to both churches. Invite your friends. Watch for more information. Oh yes… we need a name!

Special Charge Conference

On Tuesday night, May 27, there will be a special charge conference meeting at the beginning of Ministry Council, 7:00 pm. This meeting and subsequent vote will allow us to establish a Building Team and a Capital Campaign Committee. This is not a vote on whether or not to build. This simply establishes the two teams. Please come if you are able.
