The ELL Fall program starts Monday September 28, 2015.
The fall program will meet on Monday nights, September 28 through December 7, from 6:30—8:00 pm.
This program requires many volunteers. We are still in need of volunteers to provide childcare for children ages 5 and under.
Beth Botsford is the new director of this program. We are excited to have her join our program. Contact Beth at 626-2762 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The First United Methodist Church in North Liberty offers an English Language Learners class (E.L.L. class). We are in need of many volunteers for the upcoming fall session. No foreign language skills are needed.
Classes are on Monday nights from September 21 to December 7. Class times are 6:30 to 8:00 pm. Are you able to help or know someone who might be interested? Contact Beth Botsford at 319-626-2762 or email@example.com
Lead teachers are in place for the two adult classes. The support people needed include:
Co-teachers: Co-teachers are responsible for teaching should a lead teacher be unable to teach. Larger class groups require several co-teachers ton work with students in small groups. Classes have a set curriculum and are taught in English. No foreign language skills are needed.
Six mentors: Mentors are needed to interact with and assist students with class exercises. Understanding Spanish or French is a plus but not required. Classes function entirely in English.
Twelve tutors for children: The growing program for elementary-aged children focuses on reading and homework assistance. Lead teachers will plan activities and provide needed materials. No foreign language skills are needed.
Two snack people: Healthy snacks will be offered prior to class. Snacks should include, fruit, veggies with dip, cheese and crackers or other healthy choices. Snack people pick up the snacks, have them ready by 6:25 and cleanup after class begins. Costs are reimbursed.
Two setup and two cleanup people: Volunteers will help prepare the rooms for class each Monday. Set-up is done between 6:00 and 6:25 pm. Cleanup is between 8:00 and 8:45 pm. Some heavy lifting of tables and buckets is required.
Four drivers to pick up and four to take home: Transportation requests are received on a regular basis. Drivers will take church vans to North Liberty/Coralville homes to pick students up between 6:00 and 6:15 pm in order to arrive at the church by 6:30pm. Transportation of students home after class will start at 8:00 pm.
