Building community

Do you have a heart for outreach in our community?  Is God calling you to do something new?  If you are looking for a new and different way to be Christ’s hands and feet in North Liberty, please join us.

We are beginning the process of gathering folks excited about building a stronger, connected, supportive community in North Liberty.  We want to invite you to participate with us at one of the gatherings on:
Thursday, 3/27 – 7 PM at First United Methodist Church (in the church library)
Thursday, 4/3 – 7 PM at Life Church
Sunday, 4/6 – 11:30 AM at Grace Community Church (room #306 in the east wing)
The purpose of our gatherings is to talk about where God is leading us into ministry outside our walls. We have some results of community listening posts from last year, which may serve as a beginning for the discussion, but we want to spend most of our time talking together about each other’s ideas and thoughts on building community.

Spiritual Gifts

January is a great time to start something new. What are your goals for 2014? Are you interested in finding out God’s purpose for your life? One way to begin that process is to take a class or do an inventory to determine your Spiritual Gifts—the special gifts that God has chosen just for you. Classes begin Sunday morning at 8:45 during Sunday school and also Sunday afternoon from 4:00 to 6:00. There will also be a workshop offered on Saturday, February 7, from 9 to 11 AM. If these times don’t work for you, Continue reading “Spiritual Gifts”

Imagine No Malaria

Imagine No Malaria is our Christmas project this year.  For just $10 you can purchase and insecticide-treated bed net.  Your gift will help reach the goal of 2 million nets to protect families and save lives.  Just a few short years ago, statistics showed a child died every 30 seconds of malaria.  Today, because of your dedicated and generous support, malaria’s impact has been cut in half.  According to the World Health Organization, this disease now claims a life every 60 seconds.  Watch for more information as we continue into the Christmas season.

Registration/sign in is at 1:00 pm and the walk starts at 1:30 pm from Chauncey Swan Park in Iowa City. “What is a Crop Walk, and why should I walk?,” you ask. It is a fundraiser for Church World Service. 25% of the donations raised in our walk go to support the Iowa City Crisis Center. The rest goes around the world to where it is needed most.
