Family Ministries

Our family ministries are having an excellent school year so far. Within Children’s ministry, our nursery has begun teaching a curriculum aimed just for toddlers and little ones. Ministry to our youngest ones should not simply be childcare, it should be a launching pad for nurturing the infants and toddlers into an integral beginning—a place of prayer where young children hear the foundation Bible stories, learn simple truth statements, in a way catered to them.

Peacemakers went on an exciting adventure to the Colony Pumpkin Patch in October under the amazing leadership of Constance Wagner. Each month we are having more students come to Peacemakers as they hear their friends talk about all they fun they have had.

We are also seeing this trend at EPIC, where we are seeing our students bring more friends each week as they dive mote into the Bible than ever before! At every EPIC meeting we have over 30 students bringing their Bibles and highlighters, volunteering to read, and answering some hard questions that help them discover and own their faith. We’ve also had a lot of fun! Each week we kick off EPIC with food and high-energy games like gaga ball, twinkie football, and dodge ball.

Please take the time this week to pray for our family ministries, as we begin to put a stronger emphasis on serving families. We recognize that parents are ultimately responsible for the spiritual guidance of their children, and we would like to support that effort and help maximize parents influence in their lives.

This is an exciting time to be part of family ministry, and we could not do it without all of our wonderful volunteers.

Beth Botsford

E.P.I.C. (Engaging People In Christ)

The month of September has seen my transition to the new Director of Youth and Children here at NLFUMC. Throughout all of these changes, I am reminded of Esther. God prepped her for many years before she was to use her God given courage and bravery to approach the King and save her people, “in such a time as this”. Amidst moving to a new state, getting three children settled, and having knee surgery, I came to the realization that God has indeed been preparing me for such a time as this – to come here to be in ministry at NLFUMC. I want to thank all of you for welcoming my family and I with open arms. It is such a blessing to be part of such a great church family.

These past few weeks, I have spent some time getting to know as many people as possible. We had our EPIC kick-off on Sunday, September 13, where I got the opportunity to build relationships with 35 teenagers through an awesome night of messy games. Whether they were attempting to shave a balloon, decorating each other as cupcakes, or playing slip-n-slide kickball, an incredibly fun time was had by all. I am looking forward to the rest of the EPIC school year as we add more leaders, try out some new games (like 9 square in the air, thanks Pastor Josh!), and diving deep into our faith and learn how to live it out.

Sunday school also kicked off on September 13—it was a big day! We led 60 students with our theme for the year We Bee-long to Jesus. I am so grateful to come on board to a thriving church with a fantastic teaching team in the Children’s Ministry! We have added a Jr. High Sunday School class which meets at 8:45 am in the library, and I am excited and looking forward to expanding our Children’s ministry and involving more families. One addition that we have made already is the creation of take-home sheets. Each Sunday School class will now have take-home sheets for the parents that includes the key themes, bible passage, and ways parents can integrate the Sunday School lesson into their lives at home.

We are also still in need of a few Sunday School teachers for Pre-K music, it’s a small time commitment and great for someone who wants to get a start in Children’s Ministry! We also need teachers for our 10:00 am multi-age classrooms. Please contact me if you are interested in helping out.

Yours In Christ,
Beth Botsford
Director of Youth and Children

This is truly amazing and the Youth are so very thankful for
your incredible support. Our teens love to serve- and knowing
that you support their efforts is a blessing and a gift. Thank you

Youth Mission Trip

ID-10092577We will be taking a special collection this Sunday, June 28, 2015, for the EPIC Mission Trip to Hannibal, MO.  Help our youth to “fill the gas tank”.  This is a great way to show our youth how much we support their call to a life of service and compassion.

Please continue to pray for these church members and the residents they will be serving.

E.P.I.C. Thanks

EPIC has ended for the 2015-2016 school year. We celebrated our last night together doing some of
“Mandy’s Favorite Things”. We borrowed the Peacemakers Minute to Win It games, and had a blast going out to dinner and answering discussion questions like…”If you hit someone’s car and no one saw you—what would you do?”, or “What’s your favorite movie of all time?”. Questions like these may seem silly at first but they help the team to get to know our youth even better and start of some great discussions. Another HUGE Thank You to the EPIC team for a great year!
