Children and Youth

What an incredible summer we have had in Children and Youth Ministry. From our Mission trip to Hannibal, Missouri—to Vacation Bible School and our Everest Expedition—it’s been a time of growth and fun as we celebrate our relationship with Jesus!

The Hannibal, Missouri Mission Trip offered us a chance to serve others as Christ’s hands and feet as we worked to “Re-frame” our relationship with God. The eight members of the Youth team experienced the joy and hard work of some pretty amazing home re-construction, as well as the chance to check out the sights of Hannibal. We have tons of awesome pictures that were sent to us by the Group Workcamps team, we will post the link on our Facebook page—check them out!

Thanks again to Lucy Hershberger and Mark Benton for spending a week of their summer serving with our youth! #GodSquad

God has the Power to PROVIDE, COMFORT, HEAL and LOVE FOREVER! It was an excellent Everest adventure at our VBS in July! We hosted over 200 kids, who wanted to learn more about God’s love through songs, games, Bible stories, crafts, snacks and activities. We are so grateful for the over 150 volunteers that helped make this week possible! From providing food for our family meals and snacks, to serving as crew leaders or station guides. Thank you everyone for your help with this tremendous ministry.

On August 23 we celebrated a “Blessing of the Backpacks” as we got ready to go Back to School. It was great to see so many kids with their backpacks, and we handed out over 100 Backpack blessing cards. We also provided Parent, Teacher and Kid Prayers to help give us ideas on ways to incorporate our prayer life in the school year. Our church community will continue to pray for all of our students of every age as they head back to school this fall. Thanks for sharing in worship with us.

Check out the dates below for Fall Kick Off dates. We have Sunday School Registrations available outside the office, or on-line. We are also still in need of a few Sunday School teachers for Pre-K music, it’s a small time commitment and great for someone who wants to get a start in Children’s Ministry! We also need teachers for our 10:00 am multi age classrooms. Please contact Beth at 626-2762 if you are interested in helping out.

EPIC and Confirmation – EPIC y Confirmación

EPIC

Confirmation is under way for 9 youth and their mentors. Each week they dig further into their faith journey and our Christian beliefs. We are looking forward to a Confirmation Retreat at Pictured Rocks in Monticello in March. Who doesn’t love rock climbing, faith trails and lots of fun games?? Can’t wait!

EPIC high school youth have started a new curriculum series called Life Choices—Trusting God in Life’s Decisions and Challenges. We are seeing some great discussion happening about the issues that impact our daily lives and our faith. The Youth are also actively designing the new Youth space for the Building Expansion. Slides and Hammocks are so far highest on their “want” list. The Youth Team’s list includes couches for discussion spaces, chairs and tables for projects and maybe a new Foosball table. We are thrilled to be able to open the new Youth Space up during the week which I believe will really impact our teen ministry.

Another big event coming up in 2015 is our High School Mission Trip to Hannibal, MO. July 5—11.  We will be serving the people of Hannibal in need of home repair and construction. We are still looking for one adult male to join our team. Feeling that God “nudge” to get out and do something new?

Please consider joining us—it is a great opportunity to serve others and share in outreach with our kids.

No puedo esperar!

Peacemakers – Pacificadores

Peacemakers

Over THIRTY  kids in grades 4-6 attended the Peacemakers Overnight on January 16. The kids participated in many stations including music, games and Bible Adventures ( a play about Job!).  They also did crafts such as making candles for our families, watched a movie about friendship and of course pizza and pancakes. The kids learned about a key Bible verse “Phillipians 4:13- I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (If your child attended—ask them about the activity where they explored how they could share the word of God, even if they couldn’t use their hands to write!) The conversation starter balls were a big hit, and all the kids seemed to enjoy this opportunity to learn more about God in a fun and exciting way.
A quick thanks to the Davies, Moellering and Miller families for helping to prepare and serve the meals. This event would not be possible without the amazing Peacemakers Team—their dedication to this program is remarkable. What a blessing they are to our church family! If you see one of these AWESOME individuals in service—please share with them our thanks and gratitude for their many hours of hard work and the hours of sleep they give up to do the overnight! For over seven years this Ministry has grown and blossomed under their care. When we say it takes a village to raise kids in Christ’s image—we mean it!
THANK YOU!!!!
